River: Blue River Stanley Gauge
Level: 22 cfs

Oct. 22, 2011 No real rain for 2 months Blue River Stanley Gauge Height 3.35' @ .03 cfs Blue River Bannister Rd Gauge Height 4.2' @ 22 cfs Floated from E95th Street to just passed 63rd Street. Got out @ Byrams Ford Battlefield. Float lasted from 11a.m. to 5:30p.m. with plenty of picture taking and smoke breaking along the way. 12' Kestrel and 12' Pungo touring kayaks used Fellow member Chris McKee and myself were tired of river running on the Kaw and we are pretty new to river running period. We were looking for something to float but since it hasn't rained in 2 months, options were limited. We decided to try the blue river out and I'm so glad we did. What can I say about the float besides "Beyond expectations and AWESOME!". We didn't have to portage a single time during the float, granted we did have to scooch our kayaks maybe 5' total right around I-71 overpass. There are lots of trees across the river but there was always a path around them as well. Seen many deer, beavers, fish, giant snapping turtle and a giant assortment of birds. Saw a bluejay swoop down into the water and snag a perch or something and fly off with it. The river ran through swope park golf course and the zoo. I believe you go under two overpasses for each of those spots. We saw people at all of them and got lots of waves and smiles. Towards the end there are rocks set up to narrow down the river in 2 spots where you kinda shoot through that was fun. Perfect Saturday in my book. So since there hasn't been rain and if you want to run a river that float is perfect!
