Our situation was slightly different. Our bread and butter club function is group outings to rivers in this area. At the time, we decided that we needed liability insurance to cover us in lawsuts from accident victims or their survivors. Nobody from outside our club told us we needed to have insuran...

Liability Insurance

I can share with you my clubs (DKCC) experience with liability insurance. To make a long story short, we got the bee in our bonnet that it was time for our club to get some liability insurance. I was the club president at the time and it was not my idea, but decided to go along with whatever the maj...

I read the article and looked at the pictures. It looks like you guys really get after it. I did see some wake surf boards in a sporting goods store the other day when I went to buy some fishing stuff. I never knew the sport had evolved to the point where they have special boards for it. That wake l...

I didn't take the time to download the software needed for the video clips in that link. Although I'm not really wanting to participate in kayaking behind a tow boat, I am interested in how people are doing it. The thing that intriques me is the idea of surfing the barge wakes. I've actually tried i...

That link doesn't come up. I wonder if it is gone for good or just temporarily. I did a big write up on the 2 boat kind of wake surfing last fall. It wasn't my cup of tea. I prefer to play on river features, and wakeboard or ski behind a tow boat. Luckily there is a very nice play hole that is in a ...

Searching for a drowning victim

I'm the Wa paddler with Oxford, Kansas connections. I helped serch for 2 drowning victims on the Yakima River near where I live last week, and would like to share with you folks what I learned. The Yakima near here is currently a muddy, 7000 cfs river. This was down in the last 10 or 15 miles of the...

I like CaveDave's advice of getting the paddle, spray skirt, helmut, and cold water gear before getting the boat. So many experienced boaters have 2 or 3 or more boats, but only 1 paddle, skirt, drytop, etc. I would say that you are a lot more "invitable" if you have all of the other gear but not a ...

When I was in college at Montana State University in Bozeman, I would sometimes go look at white water (WW) kayaks and other gear at a local sporting goods store, but actually buying anything was far beyond my budget. Sounds like where you're at now. A lot of people never get into WW kayaking becaus...

I'm on my 4th dry top. The neck gasket on the one I'm currently using was tight for a few outings, but then it loosened up, and now it feels just right. It wasn't super tight when it was new, but tight to the point that it detracted a little from the enjoyment of those first few outings. I like to u...

That knife has a pointed end. Do you folks worry about cutting yourself if you get entangled in a rope and have to cut free? I have a knife with a flat end which is attached to the PFD I wear when I anchor my small motor boat in current for fishing. I had never used that knife for anything before (j...

I recently bought a pair of NRS Desperado Socks, and I've been happy with them. They seem to be a good compromise between thick enough soles for walking around yet thin and flexible enough for wearing in the boat. I often bring a heavy soled pair of neoprene booties (made by Hodgman that I bought at...

I have heard about the Number section, but never seen it, so I don't have anything to add about it. I can picture such a big river at a really low level with that much gradient having plenty of potential pinning spots. Must be quite a classis because I've heard about it out here. I consider myself t...

I would like to add one more thing about safety (should have included it in the first post). If you flip in the hole, remember it is a hole (doesan't make much difference whether it is formed by water rushing over boulders or boats rushing over water)... ...and like in any hole when you flip you sho...

Wakeboating

I did something this weekend at a party that you people might be interested in, although I'm not too high on it myself. I'm the guy in Washington State with Oxford, Kansas connections. My friend has a house on the Columbia River, and he had a very nice party on Saturday. The party started in the aft...
