Kaw / 435

Was out boating Kaw yesterday and saw some features really change as the level rose. A boater asked how long the lag was from the DeSoto gauge. Could not come up with a specific number just something like about 6 to 10 hours. Took a look at the gauges (DeSoto, Lawrence, Lecompton) and cranked out a ...

I won't have enough information put together in my notes for quite some time. Lots of changes due to the way flow is being controlled. Everything we knew and relied on from last summer is out the window for all flows above about 900 to 1000cfs.

Kaw 435

Anyone want to boat Kaw i435 tomorrow? Looks like it will hit about 10,000cfs or so for about a 8 hour window more or less. Get in some chute and mini chute runs, hopefully some waves to surf. Good practice with wave trains and nicely defined eddy lines. Probably gonna first hit 10,000 between midni...

Bowersock

Boating below Bowersock Dam in Lawrence has changed a lot. The north side power plant is complete and operational. This affects our boating there. Currently gathering information on flows and impacts on the various features. Will take time and lots of observations. One thing I just found out about i...

For this runoff event the peak flow lag was about 4 hours from the Stanley gauge to the Blue Ridge Ext gauge. Based on approximate river distance, another 1 to 2 hours down to Fords Hole. Blue Ridge Ext gauge to Fords Hole -- 1 to 2 hours Stanley gauge to Fords Hole -- 5 to 6 hours This is only for ...

Things are starting to gear up. One good strong storm cell should set off both Mill and Indian. Tomorrow morning and maybe all day should be good too. Loaded up, heading that way when the next cell hits. Will be out boating until dark. Flash Flood Watch Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 4:24 AM ...

Mill Creek, Indian

With help from the rain and runoff gods we may get water. Anybody want to boat if Mill, Indian, or Blue go off big?

Today thru Thursday are possible, daytime hours.

Mill at 9 ft and up, Indian at 8.5 and up.

Thanks for bringing this up, cavedave. I was very impressed with your cleanup efforts at Mill Creek; a good example for us all. Well Done! How about each of us carry out a bag of trash each time we kayak? I can remember a time at Wister Wave where several kayakers were picking up trash during playbo...

Mill Creek Optimal Levels

Kevin -- One more request before I forget -- Is it ok to change the Mill Creek paddling levels on the Stormwatch gauge? Went back and checked my notes over the last 3 or 4 years -- was thinking these levels may work (disclaimer -- it does get extremely fast above about 9 or so feet, have to catch th...
