Possible WW park in Lawrence, below Bowersock Dam. For any of you on Facebook, request you post this on whatever WW pages are in play there.

How likely is this project to go through? Aren't they talking about a WW park for ages now and yet nothing's been done so far?

Yes, talk has gone on for a number of years. Chances are decent this time for a couple of reasons.

Lawrence is in an ongoing process of development, with a lot of focus on the river as a destination or place to live. There is currently a huge project in planning that may or may not happen; the proposed site is right on the river behind Johnny's Tavern in North Lawrence. It is a combination of apartments and retail.

There is and has been a huge push to bring folks into Lawrence to visit, live, and spend money downtown. As you know, a few new apartment / retail buildings have gone up along New Hampshire Street between 7th and 10th. There is also ongoing development of the Lawrence Arts District and Arts Corridor in East Lawrence along east 9th Street and on Pennsylvania Street between 8th and 9th.

So with all of this and more happening, it makes perfect sense to build a WW park now. Especially since heavy construction is slated to happen in the riverbed with bank stabilization and Bowersock Dam repairs.

It would be a lot cheaper to do it now, as opposed to an individual project. Here's to hopes for the future!

Salud!
