Bailey Fest

Post by Opes » Mon Jul 29, 2013 12:05 pm

Bailey Fest is almost here. It is a great time. Water is damn released and there will be runs for all levels of paddlers. Camping, beer, music, kayak porn, and summer paddling. Several of us are planning on going. Anyone else in?

I would love to car pool out there, or find someone who wants to ride and split gas wit me! I'm currently in Cottonwood Falls, KS, by emporia.

I need to redeem myself, cuz the first year of Bailey Fest was my first time being on whitewater of that level and it was more like swimfest for me =). Styled Four Falls, the Steeps and Tampax, but swam on like trashcan and some other in between stuff.

Ah, Trash Can, source of so many surprise quality beatdowns. :) I had a slightly scary moment in there at high water once.

Wish I could go this year, but not looking like it's in the cards. I'm busting butt at work right now and busy with my kids too. Bailey is quality steeps and there are some great class 3 options there as well. And the mountains... Man, if I can get away I will, but I may just have to save up my chips for a late year run at Yough or The Cascades.

I've been on the fence about bailey as well, cuz I just did a trip out there a few weeks ago when I probably should have been working.. But as it gets closer I'm starting to think I can't miss out on that much fun!

I might be really interested in going. Haven't boated regionally since I moved to Kansas a year ago (Have boated some in Washington St and flatwater in Tx). Whether I go will depend a little on work but I would love to hook up with people for the Festival.

Hopefully we will see you two out there.

We will be leaving KC Friday morning with a car full. I think the preliminary plan is to run Foxton/Waterton on Friday afternoon or Sat for a warm up and see how we feel about Bailey after that.

Josh

Well I sealed the deal this weekend with a bike wreck. Won't be any paddling for me for a week or two. Will be healing up for water out east. You guys go get some good water out there - have a great trip!

I apologize guys but I am not going to be able to make Bailey Fest this weekend. I already have a 3 week vacation scheduled for later this month (Burning Man and Washington St) and there is no way I can afford the time this weekend. Keep me in mind later this year and into next as I really want to get out boating.

Fish, I hope it is nothing to serious. Get feeling better.

Bob, I know there is going to be quite a few of us headed to the Ocoee for Maintenance Week. It is a good time. It is the first full week of October. Hopefully we will get lucky and be able to run some of the other stuff like the Tellico while we are out there.

Ya'll have a great time this weekend!! I'm probably not going to make it to Bailey Fest this year, unless I get a wild hair-ball or find someone to split gas with haha. I'd be keen to check out some boating out east this fall. I've never paddled anything out that way, but it looks beautiful.

Man, it's killin me to not get to CO to paddle this summer. Been a hell of a busy year tho. I'm damn sure gonna clear out time for a trip later in the year for sure. Cheoah Nov 2-3 would work. Cascades Sept 28-29 would be even better. Upper Yough (first 2 weekends in Sept, first one in Oct) might just be heaven... Hell, if I get in better shape for climbing steps and rapelling with my boat, maybe even Tallulah (overlaps with Cheoah in Nov)...

Maybe we can make a Turtle and Fish trip out of it and see if any other aquatic critters want to go?. :-)

CO was fun as hell. Bailey Fest was good. Met all kinds of funny peeps. Got to drink a few brews with Dave Fusili of the Demshitz so that was cool.
