Kaw 435 Gauge

Post by burr » Sat Dec 26, 2015 8:54 am

I didn't even know this gauge existed -- looks like it is right there at Kaw 435.

This will give us better real time correlation of the level rather than estimating based on the De Soto gauge located about 6 hours upstream. For those of us who boat Kaw regularly this is good news for keeping up our notes on good levels, when nice waves come in and out. Still changes a lot over time due to shot rock moving around.

Kevin -- Can you change over to this gauge for Kaw 435?

Rod -- Can you change over to this gauge for Kaw 435 on kayakdog.com?

The gauge has been updated but new levels will have to be defined for optimum etc.

Thanks for making the change. I am probably not the one to define opto levels; for me opto at Kaw is about 24,000cfs, if it still acts the same,

River gauge height below the dam is determined by the level of the Missouri river. It will not correlate well with CFS in the Kaw.

Thanks Dave for getting me to think on this one. You are right we do see the backwater come up from the Missouri River when its flow is high.

Just spoke with one of the stream gauging Scientists at USGS. He stated that the stream gauge is located abpve tjhe dam. So I am thinking we are good to go.
