Waka at 1000cfs

Post by burr » Wed Jan 06, 2016 12:55 pm

Waka wave currently releasing at 1000cfs. For you hardy cold water boaters go on out and get some.

Reminder about the dangers of cold water boating, swims, and hypothermia. And the cold water gasp reflex.

Hitting Waka today around 1200 noon or 1pm. Scouting report from this morning.

1. Backwater is high due to runoff.
2. Sweet spot is about 6 feet wide on south side.
3. Has turned into a flat wave with very little hole like character.
4. Green water has decent but not super fast speed coming into the foam pile.
5. Foam pile is small to moderate in size.
6. Tongue is about 6 feet wide from middle over to near the north side.
7. Small overfall hole on north side.

May or may not stay long, depending on how good it is. Will post observations tonite.

Waka was back to the new normal at 1000cfs. Hit it for about an hour with good surfs and spins. Fast and fun; sticky in the sweet spot but still tries to push you out toward the tongue. Similar to the last 1000cfs release in September 2015.

Did have icing due to a strong north wind and air temp. Be careful out there.

We are thinking the new opto for Waka is somewhere between 750 and 900cfs. Additional info if we get those kinds of releases.
