Wakarusa Event update, and final thoughts

Postby Shawn » Thu Jul 27, 2006 2:59 pm

I think we put on a great event, even though the water didn't pan out as we had hoped. I have sent a letter to the Corps with regards to our findings and our questions about actual water flow. I hope to have a response soon.

I personally counted 35 kayakers, many from out of town and out of state. I counted dozens of spectators throughout the day, as well as pretty good press coverage from the Lawrence Journal World.

We also had participation from Red Bull who were on hand to hand out some free drinks, as well as Friends of the Kaw, who set up a booth in the shelter.

Next year I hope we can get even more boaters out on the Wakarusa.

Yeah, it was great! I was sore and had blisters on both hands by the end of the day. I've never seen such a line-up for such a small wave :)
